François Houtart

François Houtart, born in Brussels, began his organ studies with Paul Sprimont and completed them with a Higher Diploma at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (Hubert Schoonbroodt), the Higher Diploma in Chamber Music and the Licence in Composition (Daniel Capelletti). He met Jean Guillou, André Isoir, Carlo Hommel, Montserrat Torent and Yanka Hékimova during courses. He won the International Organ Competition in Freyming (F) and has given concerts in Europe and the Americas. 

François Houtart conducts organ restorations and constructions and has recorded eight CDs.   

He has taught, among other things, Musical Writing - Analysis and Music History at the Waterloo Music Academy and has given courses in Belgium and elsewhere. He has been organist at the Priory of the Blessed Sacrament in Antwerp since 2015.  

He attended the courses of Don Saulnier (F) and directed the Gregorian Schola of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Brussels from 1992 to 2009 and gave courses in Gregorian chant.  

With Cor Sacratissimum he was recognised as a composer by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. His Hip Orgue, opus 30 - organ and hip hop dance - was premiered in 2013 at the Opéra de Liège and performed in four European countries.  

He has premiered works in Belgium, France and Spain which he has played himself or which have called on performers such as Marc Grauwels or Renata Kambarova (flute), Claude Vonin or Maxime Stasyk (violin), Paul-Henri Fischler (oboe), Emmanuelle Weeger (recorders) or Pascale Rouet (organ).
